The Moosehorn Heritage Museum Inc. displays a pioneer home layout, local artifacts and photos in the former CNR station and former masonic hall, a replica of St. Thomas Church and technical equipment from Canadian Forces Station Gypsumville. Donations accepted. location: Railway and First St. p: 204-768-3788 w: www.grahamdale.ca b New Iceland Heritage Museum – Gimli HERITAGE MUSEUM NEW ICELAND The New Iceland Heritage Museum is dedicated to preserving and presenting this fascinating chapter of Manitoba's history. Begin your visit with a ten-minute film. The "New Iceland Saga" tells the story of one pioneer family through the eyes and experiences of four generations. Inside the museum you will find a painting that comes to life, a full size tent and pioneer cabin and a Saga & Legends gallery for the children, complete with a pint sized reading room. Open year-round. location: 94 - 1st Ave. p: 204-642-4001 e: nihm@mts.net w: www.nihm.ca b Lockport LITTLE BRITAIN UNITED CHURCH (PHS) Little Britain United Church is one of five surviving original Red River Settlement stone churches in Manitoba. Built by Duncan McRae between 1872 and 1874, this medieval Gothic-inspired church is the oldest United Church building in Manitoba. location: north of Lockport on Hwy. 9 LOCKPORT HERITAGE PARK Lockport Heritage Park is home to the Kenosewun (Cree for "there are many fishes") Centre, which houses tourist information, archaeological exhibits of Aboriginal horticultural artifacts, and audio-visual presentations on Aboriginal history and the history of Lockport. Scenic footpaths overlook St. Andrew's lock and dam, a national historic site. A provincial plaque commemorates the first farmers in the Red River Valley. Open May long weekend to September long weekend. location: PTH 44, just east of the Lockport Bridge Lundar LUNDAR MUSEUM The Lundar Museum includes the former CNR station, the Mary Hill School, the former Notre Dame Church, two log houses, a CN tool shed, a caboose and a steel building, displays of pioneer and domestic artifacts, as well as an Icelandic library. Open mid-June to September. Admission charged. location: Railway Ave. and Main St. p: 204-739-0147 GIANT GOOSE STATUE A giant goose statue marks Lundar as the Heart of Canada goose country. Every Thanksgiving weekend teams compete at the Lundar Elks All- Canada Goose Shoot. River Road Heritage Parkway Drive the historic route that follows the Red River and visit the many interpretive displays, walkways, historic landmarks and scenic lookouts along the way. location: turn right off Hwy. 9 north of the Perimeter Hwy. CAPTAIN KENNEDY MUSEUM AND MAPLE GROVE TEA ROOM Captain Kennedy Museum and Maple Grove Tea Room was built in 1866 by Captain William Kennedy, an explorer, entrepreneur and trader. Three rooms are furnished in the style of the era. The glassed-in Maple Grove tearoom overlooks English gardens and the historic Red River. Closed most Mondays. ANDREW'S-ON-THE-RED ANGLICAN CHURCH (PHS) Built between 1845 and 1899, St. Andrew's-on-the-Red Anglican Church is the oldest stone church in Western Canada still used for public worship. This Gothic Revival church has massive walls, small painted windows, a steep roof and a full wooden steeple. A Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada plaque commemorates the site. Kneeling benches are covered with buffalo hide and many original fixtures still remain.
