EASTERN 48 Falcon Lake Golf Course is one of Manitoba's finest and most challenging courses. There's a professional golf course, miniature golf, tennis, horseshoes and a year-round riding stable. Whiteshell Provincial Park PROVINCIAL PARK WHITESHELL This spectacular park offers over 2,729 km²/1,689 mi² of dazzling waters and lush forests. Park visitors of all ages enjoy hiking, mountain biking, tennis, quiet beaches and water sports of all kinds. Over 200 lakes offer walleye, northern pike, perch, smallmouth bass and lake trout fishing excitement. A year-round playground, the Whiteshell offers winter lovers cross-country and downhill skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, winter hiking, skating and snowmobiling. The park has three entrance points: Hwy. 1 from the east or west, from the south on the La Vérendrye Trail at Hwy. 44 and driving northward on PR 307. The Centre features an interpretive program, displays, exhibits, self-guiding hiking trail and an observation gallery overlooking a small pond. They are believed to have been made centuries ago by First Nations people for their value in teaching and healing ceremonies. location: north of Pine Point Rapids p: 204-369-3157 Caddy Lake on Hwy. 44 is the beginning of the ancient Whiteshell River canoe route. Gas, groceries, seasonal accommodations and camping are available on this picturesque lake. Activities include canoeing, fishing, boating, camping and hiking. Caddy Lake Rock Tunnels are rock caves created by railroad construction. Entrance by motor boat or canoe provides an interesting access to a wilderness campsite for a picnic, afternoon of fishing or to begin the 170 km Caddy Lake canoe route. location: boat access, north end of Caddy Lake p: 204-349-2201 for water levels Falcon Ridge Ski & Recreation Area offers winter activities for the whole family including downhill skiing, snowboarding, tubing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The pond was formed when soft rock was scooped away from glaciers. location: Hwy. 44, west of Caddy Lake Mantario Hiking Trail is the longest in the Canadian Shield area of Western Canada. Hike over 60 km of rugged Precambrian terrain. This challenging trail is intended for experienced backpackers. location: PR 312 at Caddy Lake or north Shore Big Whiteshell Lake, PR 309 Pine Point Rapids, this 8.2 km trail consists of two loops through the boreal forest along the Whiteshell River, past waterfalls and rapids.
