Winnipeg Free press saturday, august 29, 2015 HOME GAME PLAYBOOK 3 N ot this week. robert Marve was assured a second consecutive start at the helm of the Blue Bombers offence this past sunday as the team reconvened after their Week 9 bye week. Marve had an average game in his first outing, throwing 19 completions on 28 attempts for 203 yards and a touchdown while adding an interception. not a bad performance, all things considered. Marve admitted after the game that fatigue hindered his play, as did a stomach virus that reportedly had him vomiting on the sidelines during the game. the former purdue product joked following the loss that the team was putting points on the board while he was putting bile on the turf. tonight, the Bombers welcome the West division-leading Calgary stampeders to investors group Field for Week 10 — after welcoming former stampeders linebacker Jasper simmons to the Bombers practice roster last week. simmons was sensationally released by the stampeders following a twitter tirade initiated by his agent, sammy gahagan. gahagan called the stamps the CFL's "worst organization" while adding that his client was "held hostage" by the defending grey Cup champions. simmons defended his honour this week, saying that everything that went down with stamps head coach John Hufnagel — including repeated attempts at asking for his release — was about business. simmons saw action in parts of four games this year, registering four tackles. Bomber fans are understandably worried that the same fracas could repeat itself in Winnipeg, and while simmons did little to quell the speculation, fans can take some solace in the fact that he recorded 80 tackles while tacking on three interceptions and a forced fumble in 2014 with the Ottawa redBlacks. the kid has some talent. He was Ottawa's nominee for two CFL awards in 2014 — Most Outstanding player and Most Outstanding defensive player. even with the Bombers losing four out of their last five games, the club gave the stamps a run for their money back in Week 4, losing by a single point 26-25 at McMahon stadium. But drew Willy won't be at the helm this time, nor will paris Cotton tote the ball. the good news for the Bombers will come in the form of an absence at tailback for the stamps as Jon Cornish, who battered the Bombers' front seven for 120 yards, was placed on the six-game injured list with a thumb injury at the end of July. the Bombers offence, meanwhile, will look to nick Moore and Clarence denmark at receiver. denmark registered 101 yards and a touchdown in the loss. Cameron Marshall looks poised to see the lion's share of carries for the Blue and gold. in his first start for the Bombers in Week 8, the second-year CFLer toted the ball 14 times for 55 yards. ❚ edBlacks. kid has some talent.
