SEPTEMBER 2015 • PAGE 5 The Manito Ahbee Festival will host the largest music awards ceremony for Indigenous Peoples in Canada as one part of the largest gathering of Indigenous Peoples in North America. Here are a few highlights of what's happening: Manito Ahbee Festival celebrates from September 9 – 13 and will transform the MTS Centre in Winnipeg into a swarm of activity with entertainment, celebration and sharing of the significance of our culture. One of the most sought-after events will be the Indigenous Music Awards (formerly the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards) on Friday, September 11. It's the 10-year anniversary of the awards so come check out the pre- show and it's free for everyone. Indigenous Music Awards Join the festivities live – in-person or online – with APTN Live from the Red Carpet at the corner of Donald Street and Portage Avenue in Winnipeg. It will be bustling, and the pre-show is slated for 5:00 p.m. CT. Prizes and giveaways galore with a fashion show and tunes by local DJ Henny Soprano will launch the show. The red carpet will animate with excitement and applause when the musicians and stars from across Turtle Island start to arrive at 6:00 p.m. CT. You can catch the live stream of the pre-show happenings starting at 5:00 p.m. CT and the Indigenous Music Awards starting at 8:00 p.m. CT at aptn. ca/webstagepass. Indigenous Music Awards broadcasts live September 11 at 8:00 p.m. (CT) on APTN and APTN HD. Music is honoured in Indigenous cultures, and it brings us together during times of celebration. Some of us also gather to share knowledge with our youth to help them become the best that they can be. Dream Big From Tracey Deer, Executive Producer and Creator of APTN's Mohawk Girls, follow Aboriginal youth who are guided by mentors in Dream Big. A documentary series that empowers youth to grasp beyond their dreams. Each episode is a glimpse at what's involved to flourish at their chosen craft, whether it's the arts, sports, the music industry and many other professions. Dream Big, Season 1 premieres September 9 at 4:30 p.m. (MT) on APTN West. Our music and languages also help bring together many nations as one community to share traditions. Join Indigenous artists on rhythmic journeys presented in the Ojibway language. Nagamowin (Ojibway) Aboriginal melody makers travel to communities and explore their own musical worlds. From penning lyrics to the world premiere of their work in the form of a live concert, amazing artists – solo or groups – face their challenge head on to create their ultimate tribute song for their host community. Nagamowin, Season 1 (Ojibway) premieres September 10 at 9:00 a.m. (MT) on APTN West with back-to-back episodes. That's it for now but not all. APTN's new fall programming launches on September 7 featuring a broadened collection of premieres.
