Just two days before she turned 16,
Kimberly Amero disappeared. That was 30
years ago this month, but the loss her family
feels hasn't faded. On September 5th, Kim
would be 46 – it's another milestone her
family will mark without her.
"A huge part of you is missing when you
become a member of the family of a missing
person. Your family portrait is always missing
them, family gatherings are missing them,"
said Ed Amero, Kim's older brother. "And
then you spend the rest of your life missing
them."
On September 3rd, 1985, Kim, a then
grade nine student at St. Joseph's School,
went to the Atlantic National Exhibition in
Saint John, New Brunswick with her sister,
Tammy. While Kim remained at the exhibition
with some girlfriends, Tammy headed home,
expecting that her sister would follow after
the fireworks were over.
Around 11:00 p.m. a friend came to the
house looking for Kim, but she still wasn't
home. Her mother knew that something was
wrong and immediately headed to the police
station to report her daughter missing. It's
been three decades and this family is still
searching for any information that could tell
them what happened to Kim.
"Someone knows what happened to Kim
the night she vanished. Even the smallest bit
of information could help investigators piece
together what happened,"
said Christy Dzikowicz,
Director of Missing Children
Services at the Canadian
Centre for Child Protection.
"It's not too late to come
forward. You could help give
her family answers after 30
years of not knowing."
At the time of her
disappearance, Kim was
five feet, eight inches tall,
110 pounds with light brown
hair and blue eyes. She
sometimes wore glasses,
and also went by the names
Kimberly Cormier and
Kimberly Foster.
