We're just starting to ser- vice it, and we expect new home sites to be ready in 2016, with new houses being started in early 2016. " Phase ii will offer a mix of single-family and multi-family options, with plans for commercial space, along with that brand-new kindergarten to grade 8 school, which will accommodate 800 students. The 96,648-square-foot school will be built at 615 Kirkbridge Dr., and it aims to achieve LeeD (Lead- ership in energy and environmental Design) gold standard for sustainability. The $30-million project will also include a child-care centre with 74 spots. "They're in the process of building the new school and they're hoping it will be ready for students in 2016," Borger says. Ladco manager of land development Mike Carruthers says it's satisfying to see how the community has progressed on several fronts. "Now we're getting the growth in the parks. The trees and lakes are maturing," Carruthers says. "it's becoming a mature community." With its expansive park space and commercial land, the neighbourhood blends natural surroundings with a functional environment. Since last fall, Ladco has installed additional greenspace and planted more trees and shrubs. in total, the park area covers 35 acres that include play structures as well as extensive pathways and sidewalks. With the additional plantings, the area is now enhanced with more than 900 trees and 4,000 shrubs. "in our neighbourhood, we've got the man-made lakes or ponds. We've got the walking trails. We've got close proximity to things like the shopping on Pembina Highway, the University of Manitoba and Victoria Hospital," Carruthers says. "For people who cottage, we're in close proximity to the Perimeter. They can easily hop on to the Perimeter and then out to lake country. There are a lot of positives." and with a range of housing options available, South Pointe offers selections for every segment of the market. "We've got 40-foot wide lots that our builders are selling in that $400,000 range and we go up to homes on the lake that are over $1 million, so we hit a wide market," Carruthers says.
