"The market has changed," he says. "As builders, we had 10
really good years where consumers wanted big, beauti-
ful homes filled with all kinds of luxurious options. now,
we have to work harder because they're looking for more
value in a home."
Working harder has translated into new product lines to
give consumers a greater selection in affordable homes.
"Speaking for our company, we've really listened and have
adapted and changed our product line," Jaquet says. "To of-
fer more value, we've taken design features that were once
options, and are now including them as standard features."
For example, options in exterior finishes that may have
added to the cost in the past have become standard in
2015.
"On many homes, we now include cultured stone trim,
wood trim and an acrylic stucco finish in the price of a
home — it doesn't cost extra," he says.
"doing that immediately gives a home more curb appeal,
and potential buyers literally see the value we're offering
right up front."
