Recipients of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Community Hero Award receive a jersey, tickets to a game and an on-field shout out before each home game. In July, heroes were: West Central Community Program director Mark Titheridge, who has spent 35 years working and volunteering in support of after-school community programming; Winnipeg Harvest full-time volunteer Cory Nys, who has been part of the Bring a Tin for the Bin program at Blue Bombers games since 2002; and Cecile Strawa, who in 1985 became the first woman appointed to the Blue Bombers' Board of Directors — after volunteering in different capacities for the previous 20 years. Strawa has also dedicated many years of volunteering to Alzheimer's-related causes. In August, the honourees were: McKenzie McGarry-Naldrett, who volunteers her free time in the community of Niverville and acts as an advocate for other youth, despite facing her own challenges with Idiopathic Scoliosis; and Adrienne Dudek, who co-founded the Winnipeg Wolfpack women's football team in 2011. Adrienne also dedicates countless volunteer hours to grow the sport of women's football in Manitoba. Heroes honoured in September were: Cindy Pischke, who has volunteered more than 1,000 hours since 2011 at the Winnipeg Humane Society, averaging about six hours per week in a variety of roles, including Dog Walker and Remote Canine Handler; and Marc Simard, who has been a member of The Dream Factory Board of Directors since 2011. Marc had a lead role in organizing Freedom 55 Financial's charity golf tournament this year, which raised $35,000 for The Dream Factory. BOMBERS IN THE COMMUNITY Meeting Bomber alumni is one of the perks for recipients of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Community Hero Award. Recent honourees include (clockwise from top right) youth volunteer McKenzie McGarry-Naldrett, The Dream Factory board member Marc Simard, Humane Society helper Cindy Pischke and Winnipeg Wolfpack co-founder Adrienne Dudek.
