October 24 & 25, 2015 | RBC Convention Centre presented by L aurel Skuba, who owns The Pawsh Dog Inc., is a professional trainer and handler as well as an experienced groomer. Skuba, along with her knowledgeable staff, will be offering tips to anyone who wants to learn more about dog care. As a sponsor of the first-ever Winnipeg Pet Show, The Pawsh Dog will be showcasing its services in a 600-square-foot booth, and will be providing information, demonstrations and advice on grooming, training and a variety of canine wellness topics. There will also be an opportunity to ask the expert about "everything dog." "Staff will be bringing their dogs and doing various kinds of demonstrations including aspects of pet care such as how to clip nails or clean ears," Skuba says. "We will also be providing information on obedience and trick training as well as answering any questions attendees may have. There will also be draws for prizes and giveaways." A sports medicine specialist veterinarian will be on hand doing fitness, rehabilitation and massage demonstrations. She will be available to answer questions and discuss how hydrotherapy, canine chiropractic, massage and other modalities may be able to preserve and restore mobility for your dog. There will be a different demonstration every hour throughout the two-day event, and the demonstrations and times will be posted on The Pawsh Dog website www.thepawshdog.com Anyone who visits the booth will also have an opportunity to learn about the services The Pawsh Dog offers at its three main locations: 10-1580 Taylor Ave., 133 Marion St., 3242 Portage Ave. and the Pawsh Dog Wellness Centre at 40-1580 Taylor Ave. These include luxury dog daycare, dog grooming salon, hotel and training services. The facilities are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Pawsh Dog will also be sharing its most recent announcement at the pet show, Skuba adds. "As of Nov. 1, a sports medicine and rehabilitation veterinarian will be joining the wellness centre. She is trained in hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, canine chiropractic and massage therapy, with acupuncture being added next year." Hydrotherapy, which is the highlight of the wellness centres, involves the use of water to promote physical well-being and healing. "It is rapidly becoming the preferred treatment for mobility issues, age- related conditions and post-surgical rehabilitation," Skuba explains. The facility houses an indoor, in-ground 20-by-25-foot warm water pool, featuring two ramps into the water, and shallow resting platforms, as well as UV filtration system to minimize the use of chemicals required. "It is the only one of its kind in Manitoba," she says. Certified hydrotherapists work with a variety of dogs, from teaching puppies to swim to helping geriatrics maintain function to rehabilitation from surgeries and diseases. In addition to aquatic services, the wellness centre has a large matted area for dry-land activities, which includes a Jog-a-Dog treadmill, balance discs and peanut balls, and space for dog sports classes such as Rally-Obedience and Conformation handling. A certified canine massage practitioner offers massage bodyworks, which helps a dog's mental and physical fitness, Skuba points out.
