Goodlands Turtle Mountain Coal Mines was the site of Manitoba's only commercial coal mines, from 1883 to 1945. Due to war time labour shortages, the last mine closed in 1943. location: PTH 21 near PR 251 Hamiota The Hamiota Pioneer Club Museum in Hamiota displays items related to the settlement and development of the district. See a 1909 church and the former McConnell railway station. Open during July and August by appointment. Hill Company building in Hartney, the Hart-Cam Museum is open daily during July and August and by appointment. A happy leprechaun sits on a turtle at the fountain in Erin Park. Events include Prairie Pioneer Days and Killarney Fair. The ruts of the trail used by the Boundary Commission when re-plotting the 49th parallel in 1872-73 are still visible on a nearby farm. The municipal heritage site has been completely refurnished and is open to the public. Tours welcome. location: near campground The Turtle Mountain Flywheel Club Museum is a power machinery museum within a historic village. See over 100 engines on display and enjoy a demonstration. Banana, and Breezy, the Blue Jay, invite you to come to stop in Melita. Relax at the campground and enjoy the recreational activities.
