It's one of Western Canada's finest examples of Queen Anne Revival Architecture. Stop by the Visitor Centre's gift shop, and consider the auditorium as a place for an event. Open year-round. Admission charged. location: 61 Carlton St. (south of Broadway) p: 204-943-2835 w: www.mhs.mb.ca Visit the Manitoba Legislative Building (PHS), and appreciate the Beaux-Arts Classical-style building constructed in 1920 with its grand staircase, pair of bison statues, Manitoba Tyndall stone, and Golden Boy statue. Stroll the grounds and see statues of Queen Victoria, La Vérendrye, statesmen and poets. Free admission. Guided tours offered daily July 1 to September long weekend. This famous Golden Boy statue was sculpted in Paris in 1918 and is a 5.25 m/17.2 ft, 1,650 kg/3,640 lb statue sheathed in 24 karat gold which stands atop the dome of the Legislative Building. It faces the north where his province's future lies. The torch in his right hand points to economic development; the sheaf of wheat in his left arm represents agriculture. Government House is the official private residence of the Lieutenant- Governor of Manitoba. It was built in 1883 by the Dominion Government and transferred to Manitoba's jurisdiction in 1885 symbolizing the completion of Manitoba's parliamentary political structure. location: Adjacent to the Manitoba Legislative Building on Kennedy St. The Martha Street Studio is a professional artist print making facility and gallery specializing in works on paper, editions and paintings.
