P resented by the Manitoba Home Builders' Association (MHBA), the Parade of Homes is held twice each year — in the spring and fall — to showcase the latest innovations in home construction and design. The largest Parade of Homes in Canada typically features more than 130 show-home entries from more than 30 builders and this fall, Manitoba's builders raised the bar, incorporating advanced energy-efficient technologies and new materials that combine beauty and extreme durability indoors and out. The latest design trends, high-end finishes and luxurious features are on full display, along with surprising extras — a loft in a bungalow, a ribbon fireplace over a freestanding master bath, and even a built-in keg cooler. No two show homes are alike. They run the gamut from cozy havens built for two to multi-level showpieces that can easily accommodate multi-generational families, but the award-winning homes do share one common theme: They're built for daily living, with thoughtful conveniences like out-of-the-way mud rooms, walk-in coat closets in foyers, walk-through pantries in kitchens, main- and second-floor laundries and creative storage spaces that will help homeowners keep that show-home look for years to come. The awards gala was the celebratory finale to the fall Parade. But you can still tour show homes in every area of Winnipeg, and in rural Manitoba too. Hours are extended during the Parade of Homes, but show homes are open year-round, on weekday afternoons and evenings, and on weekends. Check out individual builders' websites to see past successes, current show homes and options for customizing your own dream home. The MHBA maintains an online map of show homes on its website at homebuilders.mb.ca. Drop by and stay tuned for news about the 2016 Spring Parade of Homes.
