Though Justice Murray Sinclair has found himself being honoured at many events and
ceremonies, the event he attended with the Meet at the Bell Tower people at the Indian Family
Centre on Selkirk Avenue in early December was something special for him.
"It's always good to be received by your community with open arms and to be embraced in that
way. It means you're part of a family," said Sinclair. "Sometimes when you're dealing with people at
the national level or people in the senior levels of bureaucracy or corporations or within churches,
it's hard to get a feeling for the everyday person and how our work affects them."
For those who might not know, Sinclair has been serving as the chair of the Indian Residential
Schools Truth and Reconciliation Commission that just released their final report in December of
2015.
Sinclair received gifts and many kind words from community people and representatives of
local Indigenous service organizations.
