Wab Kinew, Associate Vice-President, Indigenous Affairs at the University of Winnipeg, served as one of the MC's for the event. The signing ceremony represents a commitment form Manitoba's educational institutions to 10 points that will lead to better understanding of Indigenous peoples and their issues as well as insuring the success of Indigenous students. Kinew said, "I'm not interested in playing catch up. I'm interested in leading. I want all our young people to feel that way. I want them to feel like we shouldn't be closing the leading gap but leap frogging ahead." "In the education sphere, we have to present a more accurate picture of what this country is, what the history is and a more accurate picture of contemporary reality. And that has to include Indigenous people," said Kinew.
