No one delivers the Jets like we do. AS THE OFFICIAL NEWSPAPER SPONSOR OF THE WINNIPEG JETS, THE WINNIPEG FREE PRESS HAS HAD AN UNFORGETTABLE YEAR. As Manitoba's largest media company and the paper of record for the people of Winnipeg and Manitoba, it was inevitable that the Winnipeg Free Press would be at least part of the love story that was the Winnipeg Jets during the team's inaugural season. While the connection between the Jets and the Free Press goes back to the first days of the WHA in 1972, this chapter of the story really picked up steam through 2010 and the first half of 2011, when the running joke in the Free Press was that we were covering the Glendale, Arizona City Council more than Winnipeg's and every reader of our paper knew what the Goldwater Institute, the taxpayer watch dog group that hung over the Phoenix Coyotes like a pit bull, was all about. But all that spun on its heels in a matter of a few eventful weeks in May, 2011, culminating in a province-wide outburst of emotion and elation when it was announced the Atlanta Thrashers, and not the Coyotes, were moving to Winnipeg for the 2011/12 season. Through those hectic summer months, the virtually instant sellout of season tickets, the announcement and resurrection of the Winnipeg Jets name, the amateur draft, the unveiling of the jerseys, the team coming together in training camp, the fans of the Jets across the province and around the world turned to the pages of the Winnipeg Free Press for the most authoritative coverage of the team they
