>> What makes a house a home? What makes a neighbourhood a community? In Winnipeg's River Park South, it's the people who made it all happen. "River Park South has over 8,000 homes, amazing schools, beautiful parks, active community organizations… stuff that other communities only dream of," explains Eric Vogan of Qualico Communities. "It's one of Winnipeg's most accomplished communities, and really what made it all come together so cohesively is all the amazing people who stepped up in the late '80s and early '90s to rally behind the neighbourhood – they helped make it the vibrant community that it is today." With a village shopping centre, an incredible splash pad, the Dakota Community Centre and Jonathan Toews Sportsplex, over 150 acres of parks and playgrounds, excellent English and French schools and the Louis Riel Library, it's no surprise that River Park South has emerged as Winnipeg's ultimate family neighbourhood. A 60,000-square-foot fieldhouse addition to the Jonathan Toews Sportsplex is underway and will take the area up one more notch. The multi-use sports hall will be able to accommodate six volleyball courts or three basketball courts at one time. It will also have a three- lane running track on the upper level and can accommodate up to 2,000 spectators for special events. Robert Cotroneo, Vice President of Gino's Homes, explains why mov- ing to River Park South in 2016 is such a rare opportunity: "It's really uncommon to have brand new streets and housing in an area with all the amenities and infrastructure already complete. usu- ally the houses and families come first and then the schools and stores come slowly over time," Robert Cotroneo explains. "For people looking at moving to River Park South in 2016, it's a great opportunity to get a beautiful new house in a mature com- munity with everything already developed around you. you get your dream home on a beautiful street, and you don't have to wait for the schools and shopping to materialize." Joe Fiorillo of A&S Homes explains why many of the people building new homes in the community are current River Park South residents: "We have many younger clients who grew up in the area and love it. They want to move into a new home, but still be close to family. If you're from the St. Vital area, it's a great way to stay in the area you love and get a larger new house." "We knew from the start that we were going to stay here – I love the sense of community and the amount of families that are so close knit," area resident Bonnie Lawson answers when asked what she loves most about River Park South. "First and foremost, it feels so safe. As your kids get older you let them branch out a little more, and there aren't too many concerns around here. The activity in the area with the community centres and how everything is so close by for the kids to go off and do their thing… it's got everything you need here for your kids to have a little independence." If River Park South sounds like the right fit, now's the time to take advantage. There is only one more set of lots to be released covering three streets. "Space is limited, it's almost done," Robert Cotroneo explains. "From the looks of things, there may not be any more lots to buy or houses to build next year at this time."
