"The mandate from Qualico to the builders has been that they want streetscapes that are harmo- nious, yet distinctive," Read says. That mandate has resulted in a host of creative designs. The 1,148-square-foot Randall show home at 11 Cotswold is a good ex- ample, with angled rooflines and large, linear windows that give it a contemporary look and plenty of great curb appeal. "The angled rooflines are actually an indicator of the vaulted ceil- ings that run through the home. not only does the exterior appeal to a lot of people, but so does the interior. Everyone from families to singles to empty-nesters love the design for its sense of space and great flow. It proves that a cre- ative design can also be very functional." Many homes in Sage Creek and River Park South also have dis- tinctive rear elevations. "Due to the way they're situated on lots, some homes are more visible from the rear, so the developers have encouraged us to build up the back of the homes visually by dressing them up with brick, stone, wood or siding," Read says. "They also want larger homes on larger lots with more mass, and smaller homes on smaller lots. Those two mandates also make for a neighbour- hood that has more variety."
