If you are worried and don't know where your child is, you should report them missing to police immediately. 2. What should I do after I report my child missing? Contact MissingKids.ca to talk to a caseworker. We support families of missing children every step of the way. You can reach us 24 hours a day at 1-866-KID-TIPS (543-8477) or www.missingkids.ca. 3. How can I help when I know a child is missing? You can play a critical role and help by spreading the word and paying at tention – tips from the public of ten help investigators locate missing children. First, it's important to be sure they are still missing by checking police media releases or MissingKids.ca. You can also sign up to receive notifications when a child is missing in your area by visiting www.missingkidsalert.ca. 4. I keep seeing the same youth reported missing in the media. Aren't they runaways and not really serious? These are always serious cases. Runaways are more vulnerable to sexual exploitation, gang recruitment, drug and alcohol abuse, and homelessness. There are a lot of different reasons a child or youth might run. As a community, it's everyone's responsibility to help make sure that they are located safely so that they can get the support and protection they need. 5. If a child has been missing for years or decades, is anyone still searching for them? Absolutely! Police will not close a file on any missing person until they are located, and our staff at MissingKids.ca works with families and the public to find new ways to search for a child who has been missing for years.
