And secondly, to congratulate not only the Indigenous candidates for getting elected from the three big political parties but also for the countless others who took part in the democratic election process in Manitoba. Now I know there are some Indigenous people out there who talk about First Nations sovereignty and I can respect that even if I don't quite agree that one of the ways to assert that is by not taking part in foreign elections. And I know those who don't believe that Indigenous people should not be participating in a foreign election process have heard this before, but I will say it again, that one of the best ways to effect change is from within. Recently, I did an interview with Rick Harp (apparently a podcast for this former APTN news anchor and morning host of an Edmonton morning show) about the provincial election. Harp pointed out during the interview that the Conservatives had stated support for urban economic development zones, an inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women's inquiry and Shoal Lake freedom road among other things. However, as I said to Harp, those words are more platitudes because those ideas didn't come with either a plan or a definite amount of funding. I am more than willing to allow this government to operate without offering a critical deconstruction of how these laudible goals have been met. And I should mention that Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak was the only one of the provincial First Nation organizations to offer congratulations to Brian Pallister and the Conservative Party, others may have sent one but I never received those news releases. Sheila North-Wilson, MKO Grand Chief said, "I have written to Premier-Elect Brian Pallister and am arranging a call with the Premier-Elect to personally share my congratulations and that of the MKO organization on the election of a Progressive Conservative government of Manitoba. MKO congratulates all of the candidates in all political Parties who stood and ran campaigns for election as Members of the Legislative Assembly" MKO looks forward to working with: Alan Lagimodiere, PC MLA for Selkirk; Bob Lagasse, PC MLA for Dawson Trail; Kevin Chief, NDP MLA for Point Douglas, Amanda Lathlin, NDP MLA for The Pas; Wab Kinew, NDP MLA for Fort Rouge; Nahanni Fontaine, NDP MLA for St. Johns; and Judy Klassen, Liberal MLA for Keewatinook.
