JUNE 2016 PAGE 11 The girl with the incredibly bright smile was fittingly known as "Sunny" to her closest friends and family, including her two older brothers and two younger sisters. Sunshine Wood was a 16-year-old girl who, like many area teens, had recently moved from her home community of Manto Sipi Cree Nation (God's River) to attend high school in Winnipeg, where she stayed with family and friends. In many isolated communities, local schools only provide education up to Grade 9, after which time students must relocate to attend high school and pursue further education. Prior to her disappearance, Sunshine had begun missing class, as well as consuming alcohol. Sunshine was last seen on Friday, February 20th, 2004 at approximately 11:45 pm in front of the St. Regis Hotel located at 285 Smith Street in Winnipeg. She was wearing a grey EXCO sweatshirt, blue jeans and black boots. Sunshine had a medium complexion, brown hair and eyes, was 5'7" tall and weighed about 220 pounds when she went missing. She had cigarette burns on her left forearm, along with a number of tattoos on her hands and forearms, including the words Sunny, Destiny, SW, and a heart image. Sunshine was last seen on a Friday evening in a vicinity where there are a number of bars, and as a result, quite a bit of pedestrian activity in the area. Investigators are appealing to those who were in the vicinity that night to come forward with any information however irrelevant it may seem, as sometimes the smallest detail only makes sense when put into the big picture. Project Devote, the joint task force with the Winnipeg Police Service and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police which focuses on missing and murdered exploited persons' investigations, is actively investigating the disappearance of Sunshine Wood. Power Line Technicians construct, maintain and repair electrical power transmission and distribution systems. You will participate in a four year apprenticeship program that includes on-the-job training and 10 weeks of competency-based trade schools. To be considered, you will be a high school graduate with the following credits: Mathematics 40S (Applied or Pre-Calculus), Physics 30S and English 40. Aboriginal Line Trades Pre-Placement Training Program Aboriginal candidates who do not currently meet all the above qualifications may be interested in our six month Aboriginal Line Trades Pre-Placement Training Program. Selected candidates will receive on-the-job training and academic upgrading to meet the minimum requirements to compete for a position in the Power Line Technician Training Program. To be considered, you will be a high school graduate with at least one of the following credits: Mathematics 40S (Applied or Pre-Calculus), Physics 30S or English 40. Proof of Aboriginal Ancestry is also required.
