This celebration has grown and received overwhelming support since it was launched in recognition of National Aboriginal Day. Looking back at its roots, Aboriginal Day Live resonates with images of the beautiful mosaic that defines Aboriginal Peoples' cultures nationwide. It is also a reminder of a flourishing and positively overwhelming sense of pride for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures. Coincidentally, National Aboriginal Day is celebrating its 20 th anniversary this year. Ten years ago the first Aboriginal Day Live was held outside APTN headquarters in Winnipeg. Since then, the event was moved to The Forks and has travelled to set up a twin stage in a different Canadian city for most years. From Yellowknife to Whitehorse, to Ottawa, to Regina, to Iqaluit, to Halifax and Edmonton, many cities have welcomed the celebration. But this year's event is held exclusively in Winnipeg to circle back and mark the event's beginning. At 11:00 a.m., the day will get rolling with the opening of the spectacular Community Celebration Village, just bring yourself, your family and your pals. A new addition, presented in partnership with MusiCounts and Long & McQuade, is the Instrument Petting Zoo. The area to play for aspiring musicians but everyone is welcome to join this jam space. Just outside the Community Celebration Village, you'll find the Manitoba Music Stages, featuring two daytime music showcases at the Canopy and Market Stages. Here, 45-minute sets of five acts will be at each stage, from across Manitoba and outside the province's borders, beginning at noon. Back to the Community Celebration Village join deluxe APTN media personalities Michael Hutchinson and Cheryl McKenzie of APTN National News, who will be emcees at the Celebration Stage! There are new hand- selected performers from the arts and culture community to contribute to the stage. Here crowds will flock all day- long, striking and awe-inspiring rotating performances of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis groups. Other crowd pleasers are also returning. In partnership with Rhythm 104.7 FM and Sk8 Skates, the Skateboard Competition is a flurry of flips and tricks. Radio personalities will be on-site to broadcast their show LIVE.
