Check out this year's Manitoba Electronic Music Exhibition of Technology, Innovation and Creativity (memetic.ca), which runs Aug. 11 to 14 at a number of venues including the Cube, Winnipeg Art Gallery, Pyramid and Union Sound Hall. MEME 2016 will feature more than 80 leading artists in electronic music and audio experimentation as well as video, multi-media, graphic design and photography. The granddaddy of Winnipeg's music festival scene shows no signs of aging. The 2016 Winnipeg Folk Festival (winnipegfolkfestival.ca) will take place July 7 to 10 at Birds Hill Provincial Park. Pack up your favourite beach chair, strap on a pair of comfortable sandals and be prepared to be dazzled by the likes of the Krar Collective, Loudon Wainwright III, Ryan Adams and many more. On-site camping is available but book early. What goes together better than good music and great food? Not much, according to the organizers of the Winnipeg BBQ and Blues Festival (winnipegbbqandblues.ca). This year's festival will take place Aug. 19 and 20 on Smith Street in front of the Burton Cummings Theatre. Creedence Clearwater Revisited and James Cotton will headline the list of musical acts which also includes Doucette, Tinsley Ellis Band and Big Dave McLean. One of the highlights of the weekend will be a barbecue competition featuring the top amateur and pro grillers competing for cash prizes. Fans of the modernism art movement will be sure to want to check out the WAG (wag.ca) this summer for an exhibition featuring the work of Russian-born artist Marc Chagall. Chagall has been hailed as a pioneer of modernism by no less an authority than Pablo Picasso. His exhibition, Chagall: Daphnis and Chloe, will continue until Sept. 11 as part of a show organized by the WAG and the National Gallery of Canada. The Winnipeg International Jazz Festival (jazzwinnipeg.com) continues through to June 26 and features some of the top names in jazz, indy, blues and R&B music from around the world. This year's acts include the likes of Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue, Peter Bjorn and John and the Legendary Downchild Blues Band performing at a collection of venues that includes the Burton Cummings Theatre, Rachel Browne Theatre, West End Cultural Centre and the Garrick Centre. If you prefer a more laid back vibe, check out the Soca Reggae Festival (socareggaefestival.ca), which runs July 8 to 10 at Old Market Square. The three- day festival is entering its 11th year and is billed as a weekend of fun and entertainment for the entire family. The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (humanrights.ca) is hosting Sight Unseen: International Photography by Blind Artists. It is the first exhibition of work by a host of acclaimed international blind photographers and explores the idea that blind people can often see in ways that sighted people cannot. It features photos by artists with various degrees of vision loss who use different technologies and creative methods to define what they see. Want to chill out when it gets too hot to handle outside? Check out Lounge Thursdays at Thermea Nordik Spa (thermea.ca). Lounge Thursdays take place the last Thursday of every month at Thermea, located at 775 Crescent Drive, and combine a relaxing thermal experience with lounge music, special Aufguss rituals and more. ✹ The Winnipeg Folk Festival at Birds Hill Park (above) remains one of the top draws on the summer arts scene while The Cube (left) hosts a variety of events in the Exchange District.
