Long & McQuade offers private one-on-one lessons custom-tailored to the needs and goals of the individual student, as well as a variety of group lessons. Their students range from children just beginning their journey in music to those prepping for university. Their lessons are open to all ages, from young adults who just like to sing to seniors who enjoy music and the social aspect. "We believe music lessons should be available to everyone at any level or ability. We work hard to accommodate your busy schedule and whenever possible, we will co-ordinate lesson times for family members," says Doug Beer, Long & McQuade's regional manager. "We offer affordable rates and a wide variety of lessons, but more importantly, we are a home for anyone who loves music and wants to explore it." Private lessons can make learning easier, as children don't have to worry about keeping up with a group. Lessons are currently offered for a multitude of instruments, including piano, keyboard, violin/fiddle, cello, flute, sax, clarinet, guitar, bass, ukulele, drums and voice instruction. Everyone can sign up for as many lessons as they like with no registration fees and no commitment. "Learning to play in a supportive creative environment makes it fun," Beer says. "Register for private lessons, join a class or sign up with a friend or family member and take lessons together." Specialized instruction is also available to help musicians prepare for RCM examinations and student recitals. Long & McQuade offers a number of group performance opportunities to interested students. One of those opportunities is the Rock School, which lets music enthusiasts experience what it's like to be in a band. "Participants get to play and learn popular songs and jam with their friends. They learn all about being in a band and perform live for admiring fans (and their friends and family)," says Beer. "All instruments are welcome, but some playing experience is required." Instruments can be expensive, which often gives parents pause when their children express interest in music lessons. What if the kids get tired of practising, or quickly grow bored with their instrument of choice? "Renting is a great option if you need your instrument for a short time, or would like to try an instrument before you buy," Beer says. "We also offer special rental and rent-to-own programs for schools and school band instruments." Long & McQuade has financing options if you'd like to purchase an instrument but need to split the cost into smaller increments. Those who have outgrown their instruments or would like to upgrade can bring their used equipment into any Long & McQuade store. "We'll put its value toward your next purchase or buy it from you outright. We also have many 'previously enjoyed' products at great prices — complete with warranty," adds Beer. Fall lesson rates range from $23 to $25 for a 30-minute private lesson, with no registration fee, no tax, and no commitment required. Beer says convenient lesson times were designed to accommodate even the busiest schedules. For more information about Long & McQuade's lessons, please visit their website at long-mcquade.com/lessons. Multiple studies have shown that studying music helps children perform better in school while improving their self-esteem, discipline and patience. Long & McQuade offers private one-on-one lessons along with a variety of group lessons. Long & McQuade photos. "We believe music lessons should be available to everyone at any level or ability."
