Manufacturers are focusing on two things: Convenience and capacity.
"If you've ever forgotten a load of laundry in your front load washer overnight, it
will likely need to be washed again because it doesn't smell very good," he says.
"Some of the Maytag and Whirlpool washers have a function called 'fan fresh,' a
fan in the washer that keeps the air fresh combined with the washer tumbling
periodically for up to 12 hours."
The clothes get drier as well, which means they need less time in the dryer, and
this function can actually take a small load of athletic equipment or lighter fabrics,
and dry it right in the washer on an overnight cycle.
"I leave it set on my own washer all the time," he says
The other feature is a load-and-go bulk soap dispenser.
