"The dispenser lets the washer sense the load weight, knows how much water and detergent to use, and it senses the hardness of the water to work with the cycle you have selected," he says. Capacity is the other factor with capacities of over six cubic feet. "A basic washer now is as big as the biggest wash- ers were 10 years ago, so you can wash more at once and large items like a full-size comforter at home," says Cripps. For a front loader, people normally buy pedestals so they can raise them up. The LG Twin Wash re- places one of the pedestals with a second washer. "You pull the pedestal out like a drawer and it is a one-cubic-foot, top-loading machine, perfect for hand-wash items and delicates, and you can run them at the same time," he says. There is actually a shift back to top loading ma- chines. "What we are seeing is top loaders coming in with comparable features and capacities as the front loaders, but at lower prices," he says. "There is something for everybody and it's all up to date." Cripps says another new item is the LG Styler, which will clean and refresh clothing, without chemicals. "It's a taller unit, and it uses true steam to gently sanitize your clothes instead of taking it to the dry cleaner," he says. And finally, another new appliance is the hybrid dryer. unlike conventional dryers, it doesn't have to be vented outside, Cripps says. "This dryer acts like a normal dryer but the hot air goes over condensing coils and takes the moisture out of the air and drains it out like your washer drains it out."
