C O M Best Entertainment Act Man/Sask Canadian Wedding Industry Awards Q: What's your favourite thing about designing wedding gowns? Anna: My favourite thing is the creation of the design and watching it come to life. From a thought in someone's head to a drawing, to a mock-up, through production and then to completion — it is MAGICAL. You literally feel like a magician. Q: What surprises brides the most when they come to you? Anna: There are a few surprises most clients experience: 1) How comfortable the gowns are, and 2) that we can literally modify anything to make the gown into the perfect gown for THEM. Everyone is so different and often there are only one or two little things that keep a client from totally loving a specific gown. Knowing we can alter the gown to match their ultimate vision really makes a HUGE difference to them. Brides are also surprised when they see me actually sew, or when they find out I beaded a sample dress myself. It is kind of funny! Q: How should brides pick a gown? Anna: I know it is really hard, but brides need to rank dresses in three distinct categories: How do they feel in the gown (first impression, before they analyze anything — straight gut instinct or reaction); how they feel about the fit/style of the gown, and how they feel about the adornment (beadwork, type of fabric, etc). Often people write off their dream gown because they get hung up on the details. If you isolate things into categories you will be able to better articulate what you love and what works for you, and then I can actually make those preferences come to life for you! Other helpful things to remember: BRING YOUR WEDDING SHOES, or at least shoes that are similar in height to what you expect to wear. Hemming a dress can get very expensive, especially if there is embroidery or beadwork involved. Save yourself the headache and money and let us make the perfect hem for you when the dress is ordered. Q: Why do you love Winnipeg weddings? Anna: Winnipeg has some incredible taste and forward- thinking women. I am constantly wowed by the requests and ideas that I receive from the brides visiting my boutique, and I appreciate so much how fashion-conscious they are. Most of my 2017 line coming out in November was inspired by real Winnipeg ladies and I am so proud to call Winnipeg my home.
