who's who WEDDINGS 21 By Jennifer McFee WHEN MEN AND WOMEN SHOP AT ALDO FORMAL WEAR, THEY FIND A PERFECT FASHION FIT — ONE THAT REFLECTS THEIR PERSONAL STYLE. Reynaldo and Bay Lozano founded the business in 1983, after moving to Winnipeg from the Philippines. A tailor by trade, Reynaldo brought a wealth of talent and experience to Aldo Formal Wear, which he and Bay successfully ran for nearly 30 years while raising their three sons. Their oldest son, Ken, grew up in the shop, and he has embraced the family business as his past, present and future. Along with a fine-tuned fashion sense, he has a knack for connecting with a diverse range of customers. "You will see all walks of life exiting Aldo Formal Wear's shop with suit bags in hand, Mercedes and minivans parked out front," he says. "This is Winnipeg's one-stop suit shop." Located at 310 Notre Dame Ave., Aldo Formal Wear offers two specialized services: Tuxedo rentals and made-to- measure custom suit programs. "A lot of care is taken to tailor and accommodate each tuxedo rental so that the wearer feels like the suit was made for them. From shirts to shoes, an entire look is provided for that customer's special occasion," Ken says. "Then there are the custom suits — custom everything, actually. The Made for You line was started because of all the requests over the years from clients: Shirts, suits, tuxedos, jackets and pants. There's also the Made for Her line, which creates custom dresses, pantsuits and jackets. It's awesome to appeal to both sides." An incomparable combination of skills and styles makes shopping here an unforgettable experience. Reynaldo is a master and classical tailor, and Ken says there's likely nothing that he couldn't make. "He pays such close attention to details and really takes pride in helping people look their absolute best when they walk out of our doors." Trained by his dad, Ken — who has been featured in many fashion shows throughout the city — adds his own urban flair to the custom suits he helps clients create. He has even designed his own fashion mantra and named it Sartorial Funk. "It's essentially great looking clothes with the wearer's personal style and attitude stitched into every garment," he explains. "It's the best way to capture individual style and show it off to the world." New clients can expect to answer a few questions about their closets at home. "It's important for Aldo Formal Wear to know what lifestyle they are catering an outfit to and the personality they are designing for," Ken says. "Fashion is a very personal thing, so your tailor needs to get to know a bit more about you than just your measurements." The bustling business has stitched together a solid reputation based on providing classic looks while allowing individual styles to shine through in the finishing touches. "Sometimes it's Chuck Taylors with a custom suit. Sometimes it's giant paisley pocket squares to match their socks," Ken says. "We encourage our clients to be themselves and we can do the rest."
