WINNIPEG FREE PRESS - WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2016 9 You'll discover abundant options for learning, with small class sizes and a close-knit, caring campus that's designed to help you succeed. BrandonU.ca Discover the possibilities Discover BU. Discover your future Discover yourself Herzing College offers a nine-month Social Media Co-ordinator program. The program is full-time — students spend 20 hours a week in class, and an additional 10 hours per week studying. If you're worried about the competition, relax. While a lot of people think they know social media, companies find it difficult to discover people who are properly trained. "It's hard to find people with expertise in this area. We'll teach students how to get traffic to a business and how to get people to make purchasing decisions," says Herzing president Kerry Swanson. The Environmental Studies Program at Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) offers flexibility for a range of career interests. An interdisciplinary, four-year bachelor of arts degree program, CMU's Environmental Studies Program is grounded in the natural sciences to provide students with knowledge of the scientific principles and processes required to understand environmental issues. Students can personalize their studies according to their interests, drawing on the many courses CMU offers that are directly or indirectly relevant to environmental studies. "Students are equipped with the tools to enter the challenging new realities that face our future and cross the boundaries of science and social science," says Gordon Zerbe, vice-president academic at CMU. Those interested in education will be able to attain a teachable in biology, while others may pursue careers with agencies and non- profit organizations working in areas such as conservation or resource management. It's never too early to start career planning. The Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology (MITT) has opened its doors to high school students. Grade 11 and 12 students can take all of their required courses at the college for free, along with electives that have a strong trades-and- technical focus. This can be an extremely lucrative opportunity for those interested in the trades. One student who went to MIT T part time while attending high school graduated with her welding ticket. She got a $65,000 job straight out of high school — with no student debt. ❚ HERZING COLLEGE CANADIAN MENNONITE UNIVERSITY MANITOBA INSTITUTE OF TRADES & TECHNOLOGY CAREER FOCUS By Holli Moncrieff for the Free Press Looking for a new career?
