"There are properties that have some pretty great views, whether it be from inside the
home looking out large windows or outside the home from a walkout. Although you
want beautiful fixtures in your home you should have the fixture you select for your
space work well with that view," she explains.
In the same way, if a room is planned as an entertainment centre
with a big TV, it's important to keep the line of sight in mind. In other
spaces, owners want a piece that makes a statement through colour,
shape, texture and light.
"People aren't afraid to think of these feature pieces as art," says Silva.
Getting just the right look and feel is made possible by the great
variety of finishes, materials and designs on the market today. This
winter's Dallas International Lighting Market, a giant trade show for
the industry, showcased any number of trends.
"We saw a lot pieces with the still-popular industrial look. We also noticed there were
quite a few pieces with beautiful textures and colours. One colour that stood out was a
beautiful brushed brass," Silva says.
