11 GORGE CREEK HIKE From Boreal Highlands to Manitoba Lowlands, the Gorge Creek is an experience not soon forgotten. Explore the natural transition from white spruce forest to hardwood- lined streams and deepen your understanding of the geological history of this area. Inland seas and ammonites, glaciers and great lakes – all played a part in the formation of the awe-inspiring vistas at the edge of the Manitoba Escarpment. LAKE AUDY The senses are stimulated with the unique sounds and smells of the autumn season as Lake Audy comes alive. Approximately 30 plains bison can be viewed on the gentle, rolling terrain of the fescue grasslands, as well as birds preparing for migration, and sometimes elk, which are in the midst of rutting season. Viewing is best in the evening, or in the dazzling frost-covered morning, when the wildlife is most active. WILDLIFE VIEWING By simply driving through Riding Mountain you are likely to spot a variety of wildlife. Black bears, foxes, moose, elk and lynx all call the park home, and the low human traffic in the fall makes it the perfect time to view these fascinating creatures. Ask the friendly staff at the Visitor Centre in Wasagaming for information on the latest wildlife sightings (open Thursday through Monday until Thanksgiving).
