02 - GARDEN Home 2017 & CHANGE A LITTLE OR CHANGE A LOT, WITH DECORATIVE PILLOWS, ACCESSORIES AND A NEW SOFA IN A NEUTRAL COLOUR — MAYBE SOMETHING ALONG THE LINES OF THESE FINDS FROM URBAN BARN. WHEN YOU BUY ACCENTS AND ARTWORK, BE SURE TO CHOOSE PIECES YOU LOVE, WHETHER YOUR TASTE RUNS TO ULTRA-MODERN OR SEMI-TRADITIONAL, LIKE THESE SOCIETY ANIMAL PORTRAITS FROM ANTHROPOLOGIE. SPRUCE UP FOR SPRING ON ANY BUDGET T he view of our backyards has changed drastically in recent weeks as snowbanks and bare tree branches have given way to green grass and new sprouts. It's only natural that we have the urge to splurge on a spring makeover for our indoor spaces, too. But you don't have to spend a lot to get big results. WE ASKED INTERIOR DESIGNER KELSEY KOSMAN, WHO OWNS DOLLHOUSE DESIGN, FOR ADVICE ON REDECORATING ON A BUDGET. UNDER $100 Accent cushions are a great way to freshen up the space. This is by far the easiest (and possibly the cheapest) way to change the feel of a space. This is also an easy way to decorate for the season. Add vibrant, colourful cushions to your sofa in the spring/ summer, and recycle your cozy-looking cushions in the fall. UNDER $500 If you are a do-it-yourselfer, $500 can afford you a budget to allow you to paint your space. Paint is an excellent way to completely transform the look and feel of your space. If you are surrounded by walls that are a dark colour, perhaps it's time to consider freshening up the space with a light neutral. Let your accents be the pop of colour instead of the paint colour! UNDER $1,000 With a budget of $1000, you can certainly afford to paint the space yourself and change up a piece of artwork and the accessories. Remember to choose pieces that you love, that will stand the test of time, so you can re-use them in different rooms throughout your home when you want to change things up. UNDER $5,000 Have you been dreaming of a new living room set? With $5,000, and careful spending, you can create a complete transformation. This can include painting the space yourself, a new sofa, accent chairs and tables. For more permanent fixtures like the furniture and wall colour, I suggest sticking with neutral selections. This way you can change your accessories down the road, and feel like you've updated the space without spending a lot of money.
