SUMMER IN WINNIPEG IS ALL ABOUT THE SUN – AND THE FOOD AND BEVERAGES. THOUGH THE CITY'S CULINARY STAPLES HAVE BEEN A SUMMER FIXTURE FOR SOME TIME, THE RECENT ARRIVAL OF SEVERAL LOCAL CRAFT BREWERIES MEANS WE HAVE EVEN MORE CHOICES TO WASH THEM DOWN WITH. HERE'S JUST A FEW OF OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO YOU WHEN IT COMES TO CHOOSING FOOD AND BEVVIES THIS SUMMER. Whetting your appetite The Exchange District is home to some of the city's most unique restaurants and watering holes. A pair of tours organized by the Exchange District BIZ (www. exchangedistrict.org/tours/ food-tours) let you discover for yourself what all the fuss is about. The Ales & Tales Pub Crawl runs Wednesdays through July and August and allows you to learn more about the historic neighbourhood's history while sampling some of the city's finest beer offerings. The Savour the Exchange Food Tour is offered Tuesday evenings and lets participants sample some of the incredible edibles available in the neighbourhood. The West End is home to some of the most diverse food offerings available in the city. The West End BIZ's Around the World in a Few Blocks tour (www.westendbiz.ca/ tours/food-tours-4) will help you discover just what the area has to offer, from pizzas and shawarmas to cinnamon buns and gyros. Tour guides also offer up some of the neighbourhood's history. By now you are likely aware Winnipeg is enjoying a craft beer renaissance. The Microbrewery Brews Crews (www. winnipegtastingtours.ca) runs until June 29 and provides an opportunity to explore the city's microbrewery scene one beer at a time. Stops include PEG Beer Co., Half Pints, Little Brown Jug, Torque Brewing, Brazen Hall and One Great City. The Winnipeg Trolley Co. is offering the Ale Trail craft brewery tour (www.winnipegtrolleycompany.ca/ brewery-tours). Each tour begins at The Forks and consists of visits to three local taprooms and brewpubs. It also recounts stories of the city's wild and crazy past along the way.
