Japanese home organization guru Marie Kondo encourages people to hold
on only to items that bring them joy. That's a wise practice to consider when
setting up a new home.
Kelsey Kosman, interior design consultant and owner of Dollhouse Design,
knows a thing or two about creating a comfortable home, and she reminds
us that a home is a personal space where decor and design should reflect
your own sense of style and function to best accommodate your family.
"What works in one house won't necessarily
work in your space. Your space should be
somewhere you feel most comfortable.
When you are feeling like a change, 'shop'
in your own home and rearrange your art
and accessories. Sometimes finding a new
home for our existing accessories is all the
retail therapy we need," she says.
There are endless resources to inspire those
looking for ideas to beautify their homes.
From scrolling through websites like Houzz
and Pinterest, watching HGTV and finding
photographs on Instagram that strike a
happy nerve, ideas are there to help bring
design and comfort whether you live in a
tiny home, palatial estate or anything in
between.
Visits to Parade of Homes show homes can
be particularly helpful to get you going in
the right design direction.
"By visiting several displays, you are able to
actually see and feel the cabinetry. A lot of
people have a hard time visualizing the end
result just from plans, so this is a great way
to help with the decision-making process,"
says Kosman, whose clients look for beauty,
function and comfort.
