But if you're not prepared to put in the effort to get active today, you'll feel the pain of regret (and probably your back) in the future. The benefits of active living can be felt almost immediately but you'll especially notice them when you're older. (And trust us, you're getting older by the second.) If you have a chronic condition, such as arthritis, obesity or depression, exercise has been shown to mitigate the effects in the vast majority of cases. It also helps reduce health-care costs and recovery time for a variety of medical procedures.
