AFTER THE PARADE 33 TOP 10 bathroom trends 1. Traditional styles have given way to contemporary and transitional bathrooms, and shaker style is gaining ground. Mid-century modern is emerging and Asian Fusion is a notable niche. 2. Whites, off-whites and grey are the preferred colour schemes, but blue is striking a fresh note. Stainless steel is a niche to watch. 3. Linen cabinets and wood vanities are the top storage solutions. Floating vanities and open shelving are coming on strong, but toilet-topper cabinets are, not surprisingly, declining in demand. 4. Ceramic tile flooring, although high-quality vinyl seems to be emerging. 5. Undermount sinks. Vessel sinks and pedestal sinks are falling out of favour while trough sinks are emerging. 6. Freestanding bathtubs. 7. White fixtures are trending up, bone and bisque are trending down, and brushed brass and gold are emerging faucet finishes. Designer faucet colours are an emerging niche. 8. Amenities that enhance safety and comfort — shower seats, lighting in showers and no-threshold showers, along with comfort height toilets. 9. Water-saving toilets and faucets. 10. Distributed video and audio and wiring pathways for future integration are emerging niches in the bathroom. Power outlets tucked into drawers or vanity cabinets to power small appliances like blow dryers are more prevalent.
