>> WHEN LIFE GETS HECTIC, a
single day to unwind at the spa just doesn't
cut it anymore. These days, people are soaking
up a spa experience more often, in the privacy
of their own homes.
"The latest trend in bathrooms is definitely about
creating an oasis and escape," says Amanda
Fedyck, showroom supervisor for The Ensuite
Bath & Kitchen Showroom.
Ideally, that oasis should be a low-maintenance,
tranquil retreat that's easy on the eyes.
Freestanding bathtubs are available in
increasingly unique and beautiful styles, and in a
variety of sizes, but when it comes to relaxation,
Fedyck says the shower is where it's at.
Large, glass-enclosed showers are becoming
the norm, particularly in master en suites,
and luxuries like steam showers and rainfall
showerheads that mimic a natural downpour kick
the experience up a notch.
Homeowners are also embracing technology in
the shower. Robinson Bath Centre showroom
manager Astrid Bergstrom says thermostatic
valves have become popular items. They
constantly mix the hot and cold water so you can
set and maintain an ideal water temperature,
even if someone flushes a toilet nearby. Some
systems even let you use voice commands to
control ambient light, music and body spray.
And exposed valves can be placed right in the
shower, rather than inside the bathroom wall.
"We sell tons of these exposed thermostatic
valves. You could easily access the cartridge
for any repairs that need to be done,"
Bergstrom says.
Other hot trends involve designs that simplify
daily upkeep, such as sleek toilets with full skirts
at the bottom instead of nooks and crannies.
THE LATEST TREND IN BATHROOMS
IS DEFINITELY ABOUT CREATING
AN OASIS AND ESCAPE.
