Last year, our province's manufacturers chalked up more than $14 billion in sales, according to Statistics Canada. Not surprisingly, food production is the leading sector, providing a smorgasbord of goods — flax seed, peas and corn, hemp hearts, soybeans, cheese, honey and preserves, just to name a few. Manitoba farmers typically grow more than 65,000 acres of potatoes each year. That's a lot of French fries, and a good many of them are processed at J.R. Simplot and McCain Foods facilities in Portage la Prairie. Our province is home to industry-leading vehicle manufacturers like Fort Garry Fire Trucks and New Flyer Industries, and our heavy farm equipment manufacturers are leaders in their field. Innovators come in all shapes and sizes.
