FALCON LAKE UNDERGOES MAJOR MAKEOVER By Mark Halsall
A favourite golf spot for Manitobans will have even more to offer visitors this year.
The old pro shop and restaurant buildings at Falcon Lake Golf Course have been torn down to make way for a brand-new clubhouse facility which will be completed this summer. The scenic 7,000-yard, 18-hole course in Whiteshell Provincial Park was built back in 1957. Construction work on the new clubhouse that includes a pro shop and restaurant started last December and is slated to finish by July 1. Harry Brotchie is the president of Winnipeg’s Lakeland Golf Management Inc., the parent company of Lakeland Golf Developments Inc. which runs the Falcon Lake Golf Course. It took over the operation of the golf course last year when Brotchie’s business entered into a 21-year lease agreement with the province. “I think it was pretty obvious to everyone that the
clubhouse needed capital investment,” says Brotchie. The new 5,000-square-foot building is being built on the site of the old clubhouse. The pro shop is located on one end and the restaurant and outdoor patio is on the other end facing the putting green. Number TEN Architectural Group designed the new clubhouse, and Bockstael Construction Ltd. Is the general contractor on the project. The aging parking lot at Falcon Lake Golf Course is also being redone and will have a slightly larger capacity when finished. Maple Leaf Construction Ltd. is performing this work. Once the course opens this spring, a temporary structure will house the pro shop and there’ll be limited food and beverage services available for guests while the new clubhouse and landscaping around it is completed.
