By Todd Lewys One of the few good news stories of a pandemic-ridden 2020 was the resurgence of golf in Canada and abroad. Tailor-made for the pandemic, it naturally allows people to social distance while participating in an outdoor activity in a beautiful setting. As a result, there was a huge increase in people playing the game internationally, nationally – and locally. “It was a great year for golf in Manitoba,” says Jared Ladobruk, executive director of Golf Manitoba. “Even with a relatively late start in May, 21,000 more rounds were posted to the Golf Canada Score Centre in Manitoba in 2020 than in 2019. It just naturally aligned with safe activities you could do during the pandemic.” Kevin O’Donovan, the Winnipeg-based regional director of the Prairie Chapter of the National Golf Course Owners Association of Canada (NGCOA), says the work-from- home phenomenon spawned by the pandemic played a part in increasing participation. “Because a much greater number of people were working from home, they had more flexibility to play at
