The MODERN PRAIRIE FATHER A SAVOUR MANITOBA FATHER’S DAY FEATURE BY MYLES O’REILLY

I n Manitoba, Father’s Day arrives shortly after the Prairies are free from winter (usually), the lakes are calling out to us and the evenings finally stretch long past dinner. Fresh-cut grass and the familiar scents of barbecues come drifting over backyard fences. This is not a day designed for formal suits and ties. It’s the day for fresh air, good food and a slow relaxed pace. For many, the question is not whether to celebrate but instead of how to do it mean- ingfully. The modern father often claims he needs nothing. What he is really saying is that what he needs the most isn’t another object; it’s time, shared experiences and the quiet luxury of being appreciated. This Father’s Day, consider moving beyond the nice ties (though great). Less transac- tion, more intention.
