STEINBACH CREDIT UNION INVESTS IN DOWNTOWN

TAKING CARE OF THE WORLD’S MOST IMPORTANT MONEY — YOURS. Under that slogan, Steinbach Credit Union — the largest credit union in Manitoba and seventh largest in Canada — continues to grow, as it has done for 73 years. A new branch and corporate head office is going up on Main Street, between Steinbach Place and Lumber Avenue. SCU president Ted Falk says the project has been in the works for several years. “We had contemplated it before we built our Lagimodiere branch, which was completed in Winnipeg two years ago” Falk says. The new six-storey facility will cover 95,000 square feet — more than double the size of the building on Lagimodiere — and will allow SCU to consolidate its local operations. The credit union currently leases space in six other buildings in Steinbach, in addition to its main branch. “What we want to do is pull all these departments and our 297 employees in the community under one roof,” Falk says. SCU is a major driver of the economy in Steinbach, and in Manitoba as a whole. >>
