NORIMA CONSULTING
C haracter, competence and consistency are the secrets to Norima Consulting’s success. Together, these three building blocks —what company officials refer to as its ‘3C culture’ — have helped the Winnipeg consulting firm vault to number 383 on the PROFIT 500 list of Canada’s fastest-growing companies, with 131 per cent growth in the last five years. They also are a big part of the reason the company was named outstanding medium business of the year at the 34th Annual Manitoba Business Awards. Norima offers technology consulting and strategic resourcing in the financial, energy, health-care and insurance sectors. It helps clients solve complex organizational problems with technology-based solutions through an array of specialized services. These services include, but are not limited to, IT consulting, resourcing, software and business strategy development, project management, organization, and operational and process analysis. Norima Consulting was co-founded a decade ago by University of Manitoba computer science graduate David Kuik, shortly after he returned to his hometown of Winnipeg after a 20-year absence. Consolidating all of the insight and experience he had amassed during those two decades away, working as a consultant and as director of Software Architecture at San Diego’s LPL Financial, Kuik started Norima in the basement of his home. At the same time, his partners, Ben Roberts and Jacek Hunek, with whom he had worked at LPL Financial, began building the California end of the new business. “At Norima, David is actively engaged in the envisioning and conceptualization of solutions, with a focus on balancing solution purity and business drivers to achieve realized business value,” says Melanie McCreath, the Winnipeg-based head of Norima’s corporate development. “He is uniquely skilled in his ability to understand complex technical issues and to distill and communicate actionable solutions.” BUILDING ON A CULTURE OF EXCELLENCE BY SHARON CHISVIN

As demand for Kuik’s talents and Norima’s unique services increased, Kuik moved out of his basement office and into a downtown space on the iconic corner of Portage and Main. The business quickly developed a reputation for efficiency, productivity and professionalism. It attracted clients from across Canada and the U.S., as well as a team of 100 consultants who ensure that the company consistently provides the right talent and the right technology at precisely the right time.
thanks to the company’s focus on consistency and quality of delivery. “Our customers come to understand that we will simply always deliver, without question. We get hired to do a job, and we do it.” Building on that reputation and inspired by their company’s early successes, Kuik and his partners expanded their enterprise in 2014 and founded Norima Innovations, which develops health-care products, solutions and services, and works with a consortium of European companies
“Our customers come to understand that we will simply always deliver, without question. We get hired to do a job, and we do it.”
“Norima consultants are passionate and knowledgeable technology and business professionals with deep domain experience in several core sectors,” McCreath says. “We work as a flexible extension to our clients, offering exceptional service to earn a place as their trusted advisors.” And many of those clients, she adds, come back to Norima time and again,
to research and develop technologies for the health-care industry. Whether collaborating with international researchers, American software developers or Winnipeg-based systems analysts, Norima Consulting is transforming the way businesses and their stakeholders around the globe engage in, manage and celebrate the use of technology. ■
