Jeffrey says five of Thompson’s 23 restaurants had already closed due to public-health restrictions during the pandemic. However, he praised the province for coming up with an industry-specific program – and for putting it into the hands of experts. “We created the specifications for the program, we administered the program, we delivered the funds from the program, all done by our association and the Chamber, which is great because … when you take industry professionals and devise something, that money gets channeled to the industry in the best way possible.” The general public can help by dining out more often, and ordering takeout and delivery.
