KEEP YOUR TOES WARM AND COZY WITH HEATED FLOORS

A s temperatures plummet on the Prairies during the cold winter months, ways to stay warm become forefront in every- body’s mind. Heated floors are one way to make that happen. It may come as a surprise to know that in-floor heating is not a modern invention. Archeological evidence shows that heated floors were popular in China and Korea as early as 5,000 years ago. Smoke from fires through stone-covered trenches in the floors radiated warmth into residences. Heated floors using modernized systems are still widespread in both Asian countries to this day. With autumn on the horizon and sweater weather arriving, it’s time to break out the blankets, hockey socks and selection of hot teas. In-floor heating is energy efficient because it heats objects in the room directly rather than heating the air. In North American and European homes, heated floors didn’t become popular until the 1980s. And though the process has changed and evolved considerably since then, with today’s technological advancements, heated floors have become much simpler to install and maintain. Derek Turland, sales manager in the retail and builder division for The Floor Show, says life with heated floors is a lot more pleasant.
