That same high level of commitment ex- tends to ensuring all Canadians have access to high-quality, nutritious food no matter their circumstances. In this regard, Peak of the Market Ltd. is proud of two initiatives de- veloped to help serve the community: a new partnership with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the well-established Farm to School fun- draising program. “Through our partnership with the Blue Bombers, once a month volunteers from both organizations pack and deliver fresh produce to community service organizations who as- sist many people in our province,” Kolochuk says. “This program ensures that everyone has access to produce, regardless of their in- dividual situations.” Meanwhile, the Farm to School fundraising program is still going strong 11 years after its inception. “This important initiative gives schools and daycares the ability to raise much-needed funds for their operations by selling fresh produce to family, friends and others in the community. This program sees 50 per cent of the total sales raised sent back to the schools
and daycares that participate. Last year, al- most $210,000 was returned to communities.” Moving forward, Peak of the Market Ltd. is committed to forming partnerships with like- minded, responsible and sustainable growers to provide the highest quality produce to con- sistently deliver healthy, delicious produce. “Seeing as we’re in the centre of Canada, we’re well-positioned to work with growers from anywhere in the world and provide cus- tomers with what they need, when they need it,” she says. “And while we want to expand our reach, we also want to highlight our local growers and let Manitobans know that high- quality produce is grown here at home.” While expansion and progress are always at the forefront of the business at hand, Peak of the Market Ltd. is also looking to impart
changes to environmental practices and pro- cedures to ensure the business is sustainable for many generations to come. “At Peak of the Market Ltd., sustainability means having a positive impact on people, the environment and our community. We use recyclable and biodegradable packaging materials, implement sustainable production practices at the farm, and manage inven- tory and quality control practices that reduce waste. It is very important to us and Peak’s grower partners to nurture the land so it will serve us well into the future.” Peak of the Market Ltd. is steadfast in their belief that creating sustainable, well-nour- ished communities will benefit many areas of society. Healthy people, eating healthy food, makes for healthier communities. ■
