In fact, it’s not uncommon for customers to let staff know how much they’re enjoying their new home. “We treat people the way they want to be treated,” Wickstrom says. Hearth Homes has been a family-run company for nearly four decades, founded by Rob and Nancy Wickstrom in 1987. Their sons Adam and Matt now oversee the day-to-day operations, and several current staff members have been with the company for more than 20 years.

It’s also about building a relationship of trust with clients as part of an open and transparent process. “We want people to feel free to choose and earn their business as opposed to pres- suring them into it,” says Adam Wickstrom, who co-owns Hearth Homes with his brother Matt. “We try to show them through our contract process that we are honest, trustworthy and transparent.” As part of that transparency, clients are provided with a copy of their contract early in the quoting process so they can share it with their lawyer before signing. And unlike some standard homebuilder agreements, Hearth Homes’ contracts don’t contain a non-disparagement agreement, meaning the buyer is free to share their feelings

“All of our clients get to meet everyone at the company,” adds design and marketing coordinator Ryan Miller. “They feel like they have a connection to the company and they’re being taken care of by family.” 
