Homeowners benefit from energy-efficiency programs
BY MICHELLE BAILEY
Reducing energy consumption in the home is considered one of the top things individuals can tackle when adopting strategies to save money while being considerate to the environment.
T
hat was the food for thought when Winnipegger Ashley Clarkson and her family laid out the groundwork to fulfil
their dream of building their new home. Clarkson is an Efficiency Manitoba New Homes Program participant. Her abode is a side-by-side duplex constructed by Ventura Custom Homes, which has been customized by incorporating several energy-efficient upgrades. As a side-by-side, this style of home means Clarkson and her family share one wall with the neighbour. Both homes now benefit from the New Homes Program, with the whole home estimated to perform 41.6 per cent better than a typical new house built to the minimum building code.
