“We are now doing 75% of our builds with a nice big laundry room in the lower level.” That shift heralds the return of a full-size laundry room with all the amenities, including a utility sink and extra-large countertops with space to fold clothes. “People are paying attention to their clothing again and are doing less ‘just throw it in the machine and throw it in the dryer,’ ” Milne says. A lower-level laundry room spares upper-level space for bedrooms and storage. And in some show homes, there’s an added surprise — a laundry chute. “In the bedroom there is a bench to drop your laundry into where it falls down to a cabinet in the lower level,” he says.
