nvesting in a new home involves many decisions, from big-picture structure
five-year warranty. “A home is one of the greatest investments a homeowner will make in their lifetime. Having a warranty in place provides peace of mind that critical defects will be remedied without added cost to the homeowner,” explains Lori Crandell, CEO of the New Home Warranty Program of Manitoba. “While plan reviews and inspection processes are applied to the construction of a home by the applicable authority having jurisdiction, the warranty is a second layer of protection in case something is overlooked or perhaps not within inspection purview. It also adds value to the home, as the warranty is fully transferable to any
subsequent owner.” The New Home Warranty Program of Manitoba is an independent not-for-profit warranty provider for new homes constructed in Manitoba since 1975. There are approximately 150 builder members under the program who must register all homes built for sale, including single-family dwellings, duplexes, row housing and condominiums in buildings up to three storeys. To obtain a warranty on a home, a homeowner needs to engage the services of one of the builder members, and the builder must apply to register the home. The homeowner pays no fees to the program for the dwelling to be covered.

The New Home Warranty Program of Manitoba provides deposit protection and guards against defects in workmanship and materials, where the builder agrees to fix any defects under the terms of the warranty within the applicable coverage period. If the builder fails in their obligations to do any required work, the program will complete the repairs. Coverage periods vary depending on the type of warranty on the home, but the most common is a
