Once the home is completed and rolled out during the Fall Parade, Qualico’s team who worked on this project will review the original energy modelling and official testing of their first net-zero home.

As for the home’s heating and cooling system, it will be two-pronged. “It will have an electric air handler and a hybrid hot water tank to provide hot water, while a cold climate heat pump replaces the need for an air conditioning unit,” Sims says. “Heating and cooling will be high-efficient and fossil fuel free. No fossil fuel in the home means no greenhouse gas and no carbon footprint. The home has been designed to be completely net-zero.”

Additionally, there will be a high- efficient HRV, a bi-directional electrical meter and two dozen 500-watt solar panels on the roof modelled to collect 16,140 kilowatt hours of energy per year. Once the home is completed and rolled out during the Fall Parade, Qualico’s team who worked on this project will review the original energy modelling and official testing of their first net-zero home. Sterling has already begun planning additional

net-zero homes for the coming years. “Right now, there’s growing interest levels in the concept of net-zero homes. Going through the process of starting to build net-zero homes now positions us to be familiar with the process to meet increasing demand levels in the future,” she says. “As we build more, we hope to find efficiencies in their design and in pricing, making them more widely attainable to even more homeowners.” 
